Handbook

The goal of this subject is to enable students to develop a critical understanding of environmental law. Students will gain an understanding of key concepts in environmental law in Australia, including ecologically sustainable development. There is an emphasis on mechanisms to ensure environmental protection and biodiversity conservation in both Commonwealth and NSW jurisdictions. It focuses on, inter alia, the role of the different levels of government within Australian in environmental law; key legislation and statutory planning instruments; development control and assessment; threatened species and biodiversity conservation, including conservation mechanisms such as offsetting; on-reserve and off-reserve conservation management; climate change; pollution law and the role of the Courts.
